Roads in most of the state are largely impassible due to blowing and drifting snow.  A major multi-car accident has closed Interstate 41 between Neenah and Oshkosh. Roads in the Chippewa Valley are in general in terrible condition and most businesses are closed. Some areas in the state are reporting power outages, particularly in the Stevens Point area.  Portions of North Claremont in Eau Claire are closed to traffic due to the many cars stuck on the road.

There are also reports of barn collapses in the Mondovi and Osseo areas. There are probably more that are not reported.

Unless you are in a life-threatening situation, please stay home and let the emergency crews do their job. Stuck cars all over the roads are not useful to anyone.

Also -- with the high drifting, if you have a high-efficiency furnace with air intake and output vent pipes - please take a look and make sure they are not snow-covered. This is very important for safety.

In a lighter-hearted vein, the Dunn County Sheriff has apparently issued an arrest warrant for the groundhog for lying about spring weather:

From Facebook this AM:

Good morning Dunn County Wisconsin! We currently have an arrest warrant issued for the Groundhog. Something about lying about an early spring. With that said we are still under a blizzard warning. Road are completely impassible in some areas. We have been taking calls all night of vehicles stuck in the middle of the road. The winds are causing drifts 3 feet high or more on some roads. Please Do Not Drive. If there is any way to stay where you are that is the best course of action. If you do get stuck make sure you keep your exhaust clear so you avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Stay in your vehicle buckled in. We are trying to get to people as fast as we can. There are very few tow companies available due to the weather. Stay safe!
