Today Wisconsin had a record number of reported COVID-19 deaths, with 104 citizens losing their lives to the pandemic. This is after some lower numbers over the last two days. Reported infections and deaths often drop over the weekend as both tests and reporting slow down on weekend days.
State-wide another 279 people were reported as hospitalized after a drop over the weekend in that statistic as well.
Locally Dunn County reported one more death for a total of 9 in the pandemic. One more person was hospitalized yesterday in the county, and 48 new infections were reported in the county.
In Eau Claire 13 more people were reported hospitalized today, along with two new deaths and 86 new confirmed cases.
This afternoon Governor Evers, Secretary-designee Andrea Palm, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Dr. Ryan Westergaard, Chief Medical Officer, DHS Bureau of Communicable Diseases, and Ryan Nilsestuen, Chief Legal Counsel, Office of the Governor held one of their regular media calls. The Governor asked Wisconsinites to stay home for Thanksgiving to avoid spreading the virus to loved ones.m The Governor also emphasized the investments that the state has made to help healthcare workers, businesses, and citizens to survive the pandemic. He also made it clear that all of the CARES money expires on Dec. 31 and that all of these programs will terminate shortly after the first of the year unless congress acts on a new bill for COVID relief.
