Save The Hills Alliance held its annual meeting on Oct. 21, 2017 at the Marten Community Center in Mondovi. The theme of the meeting was Effective Communication and Civic Engagement: Strategies, Techniques & Importance. There were two speakers at the meeting. LeAnn R Ralph, staff writer for the Colfax messenger and the Glenwood City Tribune Press Reporter spoke about Communicating in a Democracy: Letters to the Editor and speaking to elected officials. Her talk largely revolved around frac sand mining and communicating effectively to the press on related issues, so that ordinary citizens can amplify their voices.

Ken Tschumper also spoke. Ken is a retired dairy farmer how lives near La Crescent, Minnesota. Ken is a long-term progressive Democrat and has served on the Governor's Dairy Task Force, the La Crescent Town Board, and in 2006 was elected to a tem in the Minnesota Legislature.  Ken's presentation We Need to Think Faster, Smarter, and Bigger was well received. H spoke on techniques for better communications, particularly including the use of video to fight frac sand mining and to be heard on other issues.

The end of the meeting consisted of reports from grantees from Save The Hills for 2017. Wis.Community is one of the recipients of a Save The Hills grant.
