Project and fundraiser to collect semen from the critically endangered San Clemente Island goat breed.

May 17th, 2025

Join us for brews and goats!

EB Ranch Farmstead will host the San Clemente Island Goat Seed Saving Project and Fundraiser at Brewery Nonic in Menomonie, WI. The event will start at noon and wrap up by 4 pm.

Money raised will go toward the cost of semen collection and storage from the critically endangered San Clemente Island goat breed. Some of the semen will be donated to a privately funded gene bank that will safeguard the genetic material for future needs. Some semen will become available for a reduced fee for breeders who would use some of these rare genetics in approved breeding plans.

The fundraising event will feature two guest speakers. Dr. Em Loerzel, the founder of The Humble Horse and owner of A Stable Path LLC. Em’s focus on the preservation of the Ojibwe Horse carries similar veins with the importance of preserving the SCI goat breed. Her story is deeply interwoven with the story of the Horses. Her narrative and shared history will strike a chord and make us think more deeply about our history and how preserving livestock breeds helps recognize and respect history.

The second guest speaker is Aaron Bye. The owner of Bramblewood Farm with his wife Jenny and children. Aaron and his family have worked hard on many fronts to find ways to include the SCI goat breed in 4-H shows and more. Aaron is the Vice President of the San Clemente Island Goat Breeders Association and is highly involved in the SCI goat breed.

In addition to guest speakers. There will be a silent auction with offerings such as hand-sewn felt goat ornaments, cleaned goat skulls, fun farmstead items, gift baskets, and donations from other farms and friends. There will also be an area to take pictures with some of the San Clemente Island goats. Who doesn’t want a selfie with a gorgeous goat?
