COVID-19 update for 10/1/2020

Wisconsin again hit a new record for positive COVID-19 tests today. The numbers for today show 2887 new cases. Six of the last 7 days have been over 2000 new infections per day for the state. Locally in Dunn County, we now have another 21 new positive cases today, which in conjunction with the last few days will overtax the ability to do contact tracing. This will inevitably lead to still more infections in the county. There has still only been one death in the county.

The Governor and Secretary-elect Andrea Palm today announced a new emergency order allowing medical workers who are licensed from other states to practice in Wisconsin since we are quickly becoming a serious hotbed of activity.

A new drive-through testing location has opened in Eau Claire. and will be doing tests through Dec.. 7. This site will provide free PCR testing for anyone with COVID-19 symptom or anyone who has been in close contact with an infected person. Details are in the graphic above.

In somewhat more political news, President Trump has moved one of his upcoming Saturday Wisconsin appearances from La Crosse to Janesville, apparently because the facility at the La Crosse airport could not legally accommodate the expected crowd during the pandemic. The event in Green Bay later in the day is still happening as planned. The city governments in Janesville and Green Bay have expressed fear over the large indoor events and the possibility of them spreading the virus. Green Bay today closed all of its school buildings because of the virus - they had previously been holding all classes virtually but with today's move only essential personnel will be allowed in the buildings. Brown County is currently listed by the CDC as a "red zone" for transmission.
