Sometimes the magic stops and you don't notice

This is what happens when you try to have a relaxing Sunday morning - the web server did not restart gracefully in the middle of the night and I did not read that email account till around noon due to having a pleasant breakfast with my partner and the beasts. Now to figure out why that happened, exactly.  It may be a side effect of some database tuning I did the other day.
