What does a sustainable future look like? On Thursday, September 25, a small group of concerned citizens will host a first-time event called Dialogues for a Sustainable Future. All interested members of the public are encouraged to attend for an informal discussion of potential steps that can move communities towards the goals of healthy and sustainable agriculture, energy systems, transportation, and homes.

The purpose of the forum is to help increase public awareness of what sustainability means and how it can be pursued. We are a small group of people from the Chippewa Valley region who work or have worked in education, natural resources, community organizing, and other fields. We may not be experts in all aspects of sustainability, but we have connections to people who address the issue of sustainability with distinctive approaches and skill sets.

To us, sustainability is a goal worth pursuing so that the health of the planet and ourselves is maintained as well as we can for future generations. At this time, while there is some progress towards sustainability in some key areas, our society as a whole is not moving toward a sustainable future and want to help change that through education, organization, and building capacity in the community.

This dialogue is a small step towards a deeper understanding of what sustainability means and why it is important that individuals and organizations consider taking action. Please join us as we take this small important step towards a wider community conversation and action in the future.
