(Eau Claire & Menomonie, WI) - Menomonie Market Food Co-op (MMFC) is happy to announce the recipient of the 2025 Menomonie Market Cooperative Community Fund (MMCCF) Community Donation. In operation since 2018 and funded through contributions from Menomonie Market and gifts from shoppers through our Round Up for Good program, this initiative aligns with the co-op’s mission of community involvement and building a stronger community.
This year, MMFC is proud to distribute a $2,000 award to Sojourner House, a shelter for unhoused individuals in the Eau Claire area. The MMCCF Program has previously made awards to local non-profits such as Stepping Stones of Dunn County and The Children’s Museum of Eau Claire.
As a community-owned cooperative, our mission is rooted in serving and supporting those around us. Our investment in local organizations demonstrates that we are stronger together. This year’s non-profit, Sojourner House, is a local shelter which provides a safe, clean place for adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness. They offer space to sleep overnight, shower, wash clothes, and eat breakfast and dinner while ensuring their personal dignity, respect, and safety. With homelessness rising in our community, their services are essential to many.
Last year Sojourner House saw just under 400 overnight guests for a total of 16,000 stays in 2024. This included 32,000 meals (16,000 breakfast & 16,000 dinner). The services Sojourner House provides would not be possible without the support of the community via monetary donations and volunteering. Volunteers help with every step of the process, 365 days a year.
The shelter relies on community members for food prep, in-take volunteers, office assistance, preparing the space for the evening, overnight, and check out volunteers. Right now, their greatest needs are checking out guests in the mornings (6am-8am) and preparing the building for the next evening (8am-10am).
The community can also give material donations year-round; to prepare for winter, they’re currently in need of blankets, jackets and hand warmers for guests.
