11.6% of the 17,369 households in Dunn County receive SNAP (also called FoodShare) benefits (statistics courtesy of Associated Press). Federal funding of SNAP benefits will end Saturday as the government shutdown continues. This follows closely with the poverty rate, which in Dunn County is 11.7% We will bring you information over the next few days on where you can obtain food in the county if you are having trouble feeding your family. With the current funding shortage the demand may overwhelm the supply of food.
The Stepping Stones food pantry is working hard to keep up with the demand for food for families in the county. Currently, the food pantry hours at their main facility at 1602 Stout Rd Menomonie, WI 54751 are:
Mondays 1pm - 4pm (inside)
Tuesdays 10am - 1pm (inside)
Wednesdays 2pm - 6pm (curbside)
Saturdays 9am - 12:30pm (inside)
There are also pop-up locations in other locations - the schedule is:
Pop-up pantry locations: Rock Falls & Elk Mound (1st Tuesday), Sand Creek & Ridgeland (1st & 3rd Thursday), Colfax & Downsville (2nd & 4th Thursday)
