Encounters is an art exhibition that gives people the opportunity to encounter other people in their community on a deeper level through art pieces created from individual stories. This year the theme is 'Celebrating Differences', and the prompt artists worked off was, What perspective or experience do you bring that others may not see at first glance?
Hmong dancers will share their culture, language, and ancestral stories through their traditional dance There are art pieces in the exhibition that also tell the story of the Hmong community in the Chippewa Valley. On Sunday, the exhibit will be open from 10am-6pm, with a Hmong dance performance starting at 5pm.
This exhibition, organized by JONAH, brings together the UWEC Art Department, the EC Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (ECAHMAA), BaredFeet, Amy Hahn Art Therapist, and about 40 individual artists/stories of different mediums. This exhibition is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
