Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law Supports Sen. Cory Booker’s Release of “Committee Confidential” Documents Related to Kavanaugh’s Stance on Racial Inequality
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Right Under Law, issued the following statement after Sen. Cory Booker released emails from U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh's time as a White House counsel. The approximately 12 pages of emails reveal discussions Kavanaugh had on racial inequality including one email thread titled “racial profiling”.
“The hearings now underway for Brett Kavanaugh have proven to be a sham— probative documents have been labeled ‘Committee Confidential’ and hundreds of thousands of documents remain concealed under a sweeping executive privilege designation. It would be virtually impossible for any nominee to emerge from this process and garner the faith and confidence of the public.
“We renew calls for the Senate to adjourn this hearing until the Senate is in a position to carry out its constitutional obligation to provide advice and consent.
“We thank Senators Booker and Hirono for exposing how broken this process has been by risking discipline from the Committee for releasing so-called ‘Committee Confidential’ materials that the public deserves to see.”
The Documents are available here.
