ON May 24 at approximately 8:50 PM Eau CLaire Police responded to a call. While on the call they observed a second disturbance in the 2200 block of 2nd Street. Officers observed a suspect with a handgun. An officer discharged their firearm at the suspect, who retreated into his home and barricaded himself inside.

The SWAT team was called in and the other residents of the apartment were evacuated. Negotiations went on with the armed suspect who was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The investigation is being done by the Wisconsin Department of Justice since it is a shooting involving an officer. The officer has been moved to an administrative position pending the outcome of the investigation.
