Segment of US 12 in Menomonie to close to traffic July 7

Closure from Heller Road to WIS 25 necessary to construction concrete median

Starting Monday, July 7, US 12 will be closed between Heller Road and WIS 25 in the Dunn County city of Menomonie for the construction of a raised median.

The closure is expected to be in place through Aug. 4. During that time, traffic will be detoured via Oak Avenue and WIS 25 North.

Construction of the median is part of a resurfacing project on US 12 between I-94 and WIS 25 and a safety improvement project at the intersection of US 12, WIS 25 and Pine Avenue East.

Construction began in May, and all work is scheduled for completion in early August.

From the Dunn County Sheriff's Office:

PUBLIC NOTICE – Traffic Sign Update

The Dunn County Sheriff's Office would like to inform the public that the Dunn County Highway Department has installed new “Illegal Passing on the Right” and “No Passing in Turn Lane” signs along Highway 25 at both the East and West County Highway BB intersections.

These signs are beinga placed to improve traffic safety and remind drivers that using the right shoulder or turn lanes to pass is both dngerous and illegal. We’ve seen an increase in unsafe passing behaviors, particularly in areas where vehicles are attempting to turn, creating serious risks for crashes and injuries.

 Please drive responsibly.

Observe all traffic signs and markings.

Deputies will be monitoring these areas for violations.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping Dunn County roads safe for everyone.

Why do articles like this about road closures and road construction seldom have a map showing the situation?  Many people aren't familiar with the names of all the streets and roads in the city or the county and a simple map would make things much more understandable.  I see this online and in the print newspapers also, no maps, where a simple map would help the readers and drivers understand the situation much better.

A lot of these come from press releases from government agencies, and there often is no map included.  And the problem for us is that it's often a little difficult to determine how to draw the map from the description, so sometimes we are also bewildered.  I will note that we are making an effort at the moment to get maps into these articles when possible.
