Press release

Press release from Dunn County

To ensure public safety and preserve critical infrastructure, the Dunn County Highway Department officially posted a load limit of 20 tons on January 28, 2025 for the bridge located on CTH BB/Red Cedar River in Cedar Falls.

Despite clear signage, we have continued to observe loaded semi-truck traffic crossing the bridge in violation of the posted limit. This activity poses a serious risk to the structural integrity of the bridge and the safety of all users.  We are taking steps to increase awareness by installing more visible signage and working with the Wiscosin State Patrol and Dunn County Sheriff’s Department to actively enforce the bridge restriction and assist with traffic control during events that I94 traffic is being rerouted due to traffic delays.

Effective immediately:

All vehicles exceeding 20 tons are prohibited from using the bridge.

Violators may be subject to fines, enforcement actions, or additional penalties under applicable local and state regulations.

Alternate routes shall be utilized that exceed the 20-ton posted weight limit of the bridge and no thru traffic exceeding the posted limit shall access the highway.

We ask for the cooperation of all motorists traveling along CTH BB in respecting this bridge restriction. Your compliance is essential to avoid damage to the bridge and ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Thank you for your understanding.
