Environmental groups in Wisconsin are worried about Microsoft’s new data center in southeast Wisconsin. The Sierra Club and about a dozen others wrote a letter to Microsoft last week saying the plan to use methane gas powered power plants to feed the data center’s energy needs is a step backwards. The letter says using gas to power the data center will push their goal of reducing the state’s carbon footprint out of reach. The environmental groups want Microsoft to instead use solar or wind power to meet their needs. Microsoft is working in the center, and hopes to open it
