We've been following this with interest. There is a very large network of algorithmically-driven "fake" news sites around the country. Many in the journalism community knew this was going on, and there have been stories in different news markets about this. This article is the most comprehensive one I have seen, drawing conclusions on several related networks of sites that are gaining Google juice by their relationships which are boosting their own influence. The only site I currently know of in Wisconsin is the Wisconsin Business Daily, but there are probably more.

This article in the Columbia Journalism Review is a very interesting description of all of these sites and the way they dug down into the internet to find them.
