It's been a while (almost a year) since we've heard anything about Joe Luginbill. The last we heard from him was a statement about the financial havoc he had left in multiple non-profit projects in Eau Claire. In the statement, Luginbill apologized, claimed that he had been overwhelmed and in denial and that he was seeking treatment for mental illness.
He then immediately disappeared and took along with him all traces of his life in social media. Local media lost interest despite the fact that a lot of damage was caused, and a police investigation was still in place over his non-profit organization, which had been dissolved by the IRS after several years of not filing the required paperwork.
However - the Cool & Unusual Punishment podcast kept looking for Luginbill. And in their (Jodie Arnold and Tyler Haas) podcast yesterday they announced that they had found him. He had apparently headed out to Washington, DC where he was looking for work. Eventually, he found a position at WeConnect International, where he was their Grant and Proposal Manager. While there he had changed names twice on their website, first becoming Miles Luginbill (Miles is his middle name) and more recently Miles Andrews. Anyone who knew Joe would recognize the photo, and the resume on the site was also familiar, exaggerations and all. According to We Connect's website “We Connect International helps drive money into the hands of women business owners by enabling them to compete in the global marketplace.”
Luginbill/Andrews was still on WeConnect's website yesterday as a staff member. Today he is gone, doing another on-line disappearing act. It's an interesting story, and I'll let the folks at Cool & Unusual Punishment tell it.
