Dunn County Wisconsin, July 11, 2024 – The Dunn County Health Department now has a harm reduction kiosk available for the public located inside the front door. This free, self-serve kiosk contains items such as Naloxone, fentanyl test strips, gun locks, hygiene kits, and medication disposal bags.

These materials are part of an evidence-based strategy to reduce unintentional opioid overdose deaths in our community. The kiosk and harm reduction items were provided through a grant from WI Dept. of Health Services using 2022 opioid settlement dollars. The gun locks are offered in partnership with the Dunn Co. Veteran’s Service Office. The hygiene kits are provided through funding from Mayo Health System – Red Cedar. “When harm reduction items are used correctly, they can save lives.”

–KT Gallagher, Dunn Co. Health Dept. Director

What can you find in the Kiosk?

  • Naloxone: Naloxone (commonly known as Narcan) is a nasal spray that can be used to reverse an opioid overdose.
  • Fentanyl Test Strips: Fentanyl is an extremely strong opioid that is often unknowingly added to other street drugs. These test strips allow for substances to be tested for fentanyl and help reduce the risk of an accidental overdose.
  • Medication Disposal Bags: These bags safely destroy drugs and make them safe for disposal in the regular trash, preventing the risk of misuse or accidental poisoning.
  • Gun Locks: Cable gun locks work on most firearms and reduce the risk of firearm mishandling.
  • Hygiene Kits: These include feminine hygiene items, socks, and other items like soap and dental hygiene supplies.
