Menomonie Market Food Co-op held an event Thursday evening at their store to celebrate the award of grants from the co-op to local farmers. These are all farmers who are providers to the coop, and the grants were funded by coop customers who rounded up their purchases to the nearest dollar at the cash register. These grants are important as they help out small local farmers to produce more food for the co-op and iit helps them to remain economically sustainable.

Grants were awarded to:

  • Mary Dirty Face Farm outside of Menomonie - Two portable electric fence units to allow sheep to graze the orchard.
  • Baruk Yah in Menomonie  - A nesting box for chickens that allows for eggs to roll away from nests for easy access and cleaner eggs.
  • Bifrost Farm in Boyceville - Purchase of two additional LaMancha does in-milk for the farm.
  • Deutsch Familiy Farm in Osseo - Development of a refreshed and integrated website.
  • EB Ranch outside of Ridgeland - Upgrades to farm infrastructure; woven wire fencing, cattle panels to convert old hoop house into expanded goat living quarters, and expanded watering system

Congratulations to Menomonie Market and all of the grant recipients on a great program to enrich the local farm foodshed.
