Tuesday night the Eau Claire County Board approved the CAFO moratorium ordinance that has been drifting through various committees for the last few months. The original moratorium proposal had been passed through the Planning and Development Committee previously but had failed to pass through the Land Conservation Committee by a 6-2 vote.
Most of the public speakers spoke in support of the moratorium at the meeting The ordinance passed by a 23-5 vote, and was modified from the original proposal, which called for a one-year moratorium which could be extended in 12-month increments. After some complaints that the time frame was too long, the final ordinance was amended to be a 6-month moratorium which could be renewed for an additional six months.
