Honestly, you'd think that the FitzVos would at least come up with a new story once in a while. After a (Walker-appointed) judge in Madison ruled yesterday that the Governor can no longer refuse to hold special elections for the two vacant legislature seats, Robin Vos immediately started to decry "activist judges" in Madison yet again, and to explain why he avoids Madison as much as possible. in Vos' eyes apparently reading the law and applying it in some sort of straightforward way makes you an "activist". Republicans uniformly seem to hate Madison, but still cannot resist running for office so they can be in Madison. Perhaps we could make Waukesha the state capital. Initial word was that the state might appeal the ruling.
But today - it appears that as will happen with any good crook, once caught they will try to change the rules. Scott Fitzgerald is suggesting that yet another special session may be called to make sure that a special election will not take place, saying that the election will cause a logistical nightmare for election officials. I understand that this is, to some extent true due to the timing of the ruling. However, if the governor had not taken it upon himself to prohibit the elections in the first place, none of this would have happened - the election could have taken place along with other already-scheduled elections. Nightmare avoided. If our state legislature would just follow the laws as written and not constantly try to wheedle their way around the edge, life would be much simpler and we would save a lot of time, money, and effort. As it is, we now all need to put up with more extraordinary measures brought about when the ruling party in our government is finally forced to follow the law.
