First of all, my apologies for the erratic behavior of the website yesterday. One little mistake and things went completely wonky. But things are now all back to normal and I'll know not to ever try THAT again.

This will be a series of blog posts exploring Eye On Dunn County, the features of the site, and where things are going. Today I'd like to explore the event calendar.

Currently, the event calendar comes from several sources. Most of it comes from Facebook events - there's an obscure process by which all of the events I mark as interested either from Eye On Dunn County or my personal account get picked up automatically and turned into calendar events.  This is a little clunky, but it works. Other events come in from organizations in the area that happen to have calendars that produce iCal feeds - we can import those automatically. The main calendars we get that way are the historical society and the public library, though if you have a community organization with a calendar that does iCal (or Google Calendar) we'd love to hear it.

Note that one of the nice new features of the calendar is that if you look at any of the event pages there is a set of links to put the event in your Google or Outlook calendar. You can also download an iCal event.

We'd like to expand and have more individuals and organizations add in their own events. This is fairly straightforward. There is a link on the front page to add your events, and on the main site menu. If you click on that you can fill out the form for the event. I'm working on making that page more user-friendly, but it works.

If you have a login on the site you can put in events and they will publish automatically.  If you are not logged into the site, they will go into a moderation queue and someone will approve it in a day or two for publication on the calendar.

If you have any questions or problems, please use the contact form and ask. We're here to help.
