Although the number of coronavirus positive tests dropped slightly today (which is normal for a weekend) the 1665 new cases were the fourth-highest number of cases in a single day - the three higher numbers were in the previous three days in Wisconsin. The percentage of positive cases topped 20% today, which is disturbingly high.
Locally things are also not doing well. 26 new cases were reported in Dunn County, with a 15.38% positivity rate. Chippewa County reported 10 new cases with only a 4.03% positivity rate, but Eau Claire County had 59 new cases and reported a 90.77 percent positivity rate.

Wisconsin Ranks 35th in Latest Private Sector Quarterly Job Growth Data
The latest job numbers are out and they're not good.
The most recent Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages-- the one that Governor Scott Walker has repeatedly insisted is the only accurate measure of job growth-- says that over the last year, Wisconsin ranks 35th in job growth, compared to other states.
In contrast, three of Wisconsin's neighboring states--Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota-- all ranked in the top 25 of states.
Even more distressing is that Wisconsin was one of only 17 states that actuallyu lost manufacturing jobs over the past year. In a recent appearance at the Manufacturing Matters! 2014 Conference, Walker said, "“Wisconsin’s economic recovery is fueled by the strength of our manufacturing industry" and claimed that "manufacturing has seen positive growth in Wisconsin."
A room of its own
When Scott Walker dropped this bombshell on the state, I had no idea it was going to explode as it did. Even though I think that the events surrounding this are vitally important, I also think we need to start devoting some space on the front page to other things happening in the state and the world. Through the course of the day (Sunday) you'll be seeing some changes in the site. We'll have a special page devoted to Scott Walker and the budget battle, which will incorporate our own stories and other items from other sources. This will take a while, and the page will add more items as time goes on. The new page will be called Out-Out Damn Scott and will show up some time later today in a minimal form. We'll continue to put breaking items and other items of importance on the front page as well. Things will be a little messy today, but will straighten out as time goes on.
I'm back in the office now, and will probably stay here as other people in the Cheddarsphere do the on-the-ground reporting from Madison. I'll be here working on tools and other means for you to keep up.
