Ridgeland, WI 9/7/2020 — My name is Erin Link and am a woman farmer that owns EB Ranch with my partner Robert Grundy. In 2013 I brought some of these rare, San Clemente Island Goats onto my farm. Now the herd and farm have grown and total SCIG populations in the US and Canada have increased from around 400 to over 800.
EB Ranch has been offering goat milk soap, made with the milk from these rare goats for almost five years. You can find many different scent and size choices with these soaps. Including monthly goat milk soap subscriptions and small, 1oz party favor sizes that make unique wedding and other party gifts.
Recently, I made the decision to move my website to the Barn 2 Door media format. This gives customers and members choices for on-farm product pick up, meeting spots including in Minneapolis, and shipping options. This format also simplifies the online ordering process.
I have been raising pastured poultry for almost 10 years, and recently started offering limited pastured whole goat meat shares. At EB Ranch, I offer customers the option of being part of the on farm poultry processing experience. Truly seeing the life cycle of the food you eat can be important for some people to be part of. All of the poultry and goats are raised on pasture and get hay in the winter. I have been working with the newly formed San Clemente Island Goat Breeders Association to help advise me in making good breeding choices and help me connect with other breeders. I will be offering breeding stock in 2021 for people who want to get into raising this breed.
I am passionate about the animals I raise, and am also aware of the land I manage. Using resources that are offered, I have been working to improve pastures. Not only for the sake of the animals I raise but also for the sake of creating more flora and fauna diversity on her land. This can entice and give homes to important wildlife while slowly improving soil quality and root systems that may make the land more resistant to extreme weather changes.
As with many small businesses and farmers, we really need support. This fall I’m planning on working with a local photographer, Brittany Olson to offer holiday photo sessions with my rare goats in November. I also look forward to 2021 and will hopefully offer more pastured poultry shares, and am also considering expanding on her maple syruping operation.
