A News and Social Media Panel was held in Eau Claire on October 1, 2019. The panel was sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Post, and was attended by 20 people on a rainy uncomfortable night.
The panel had a lively discussion on how Social Media and News interact, and explored the import of how those interactions will change our consumption and understanding of the news. The panelists were Liz Dohms, digital content producer for Wisconsin Public Radio, Tom Giffey, managing editor at Volume One, Gary Johnson, editor of the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, and Dan Schillinger, recently retired news director at WQOW Television in Eau Claire. The panel moderator was Jan Larson, chair of the Journalism and Communications Department at UW-Eau Claire.
