BEOWULF at brewery nønic (2025)

John Heimbuch returns to brewery nønic this weekend to perform Beowulf (Fri, Aug 22) and Gilgamesh (Sat, Aug 23), both at 7pm!

This fierce one-person retelling modernizes the wit, vigor, and meaty language of the original epic. John Heimbuch performs Charlie Bethel's tour-de-force adaptation of this classic Old English poem about a warrior king and some famous monsters.

This is a Pay What You Will event. The hat will be passed. No reservations are required, just come down to raise a glass and enjoy an epic tale.

Mother Hubble's Cupboard - Poetry Reading

Thursday, September 18, 6-7pm, join author Sandra Lindow as she reads from her latest book of poetry. She'll have books for sale and signing after the reading.
Her latest:
Mother Hubble's Cupboard and Other Poems About Inner and Outer Space
... From macrocosm to microcosm, even the multiverse, there are no utopias here. However, this universe of poems is not without puns, pie and beer, together and separately. A bad choice of distraction if you're hungry, but worth two utopias in the bush. This collection swings from the gritty to the playful, sometimes considering physics, and sometimes using physics to explore humanity, all the while playing fast and loose with words, as good poetry should.
--DAVID KOPASKA-MERKEL, author of Unwelcome Guests

A Look at WWII POW Experiences 80 Years Later

Remember and reflect on the American World War II POW experiences in the Pacific Theater 80 years after the end of World War II. Presenters Todd Johnson and John Duresky cover the Japanese invasion of the Phillipines that resulted in an American surrender on April 8, 1942. What followed was the Bataan Death March, imprisonment in the Philippines, transfer of prisoners aboard Hell Ships to POW camps scattered across Japan, and liberation following war's end in August 1945.

This event is free and made possible with funding from museum members, City of Eau Claire City, and Eau Claire County. Register in advance to secure seat.

Murals in Menomonie Feat. The Walldogs

Murals in Menomonie is a one-of-a-kind mural festival coming to Menomonie in June 2026. This 5-day event will transform the community with large-scale murals that tell the rich history of our area through art.

The Walldogs are an international group of artists who get together once a year to tell the story of a community and create beautiful murals. They donate their time and expertise in exchange for housing, meals, and supplies, and we can't wait to show them our Menomonie hospitality. Do you love the murals we already have in Menomonie? Most of them were painted by local artists who are Walldogs!

Interested in hosting an artist, donating supplies, or providing a meal? Send us a message!

Terrace Grand Opening

You're Invited!

The outdoor terrace at the library is finished and ready for the official grand opening and YOU are invited to join in the festivities.

WHEN: September 18th at 4pm
WHAT: Menomonie Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening (with light refreshments & chamber music)

How It Came To Be

Joan Polasky left the Library a legacy gift in her estate plan with specific wishes of how she wanted the money to be used. After receiving this generous gift, the Library Board hired Ayres Associates to help with planning.

After much thought and input, a plan was created. The whole plan has many phases and the cost of phase 1 exceeded the budget that the library had. So Joleen Sterk, the Library director, went to work to secure donations and grants from additional sources to bring phase 1 to reality.

Work on the Terrace (phase 1) began on April 21st, 2025 and is now complete. It was made possible by generous donations and grants from:

What's Next? Nothing...yet. :)

As we mentioned, the project has multiple phases. The money that is used is not taxpayer dollars. For example, the City of Menomonie contributed funds, but they were ARPA dollars.

If you or somebody you know wants to leave a legacy like Joan, contribute money (like Mayo Clinic Health System and the City of Menomonie), know of a grant opportunity (like Wisconsin Economic Development), or have another idea for funding future phases of this project, we are all ears!

LIVE at LEONA's: The Resonant Rogues

*LIVE at LEONA's*
Friday, August 22

returning to EC after playing this year's Blue Ox back in June:
The Resonant Rogues

Doors 8:30 • Music 9:00
$10 adv // $15 dos

MORE ON THE ARTISTS:
Rooted in the mountains of Western North Carolina, The Resonant Rogues are fronted by songwriting duo Sparrow and Keith Josiah Smith, who share a passion for movement and sound. Before meeting, falling in love, and forming the band in 2013, both traveled extensively throughout the U.S.- Keith by hopping freight trains, Sparrow with a circus troupe. In addition to their holler homestead, New Orleans and Nashville are their other musical homes, and the influences of both can be felt on The Resonant Rogues self-titled fourth album. The sounds of Appalachian old-time, classic country, and vintage soul all make appearances in this stunner of an album.

Their intense cohesion is so intertwined that it feels like they're playing with one pair of hands. -No Depression

This is country music as classic as it comes.-Holler Country

Soaring, haunting vocals -Lonesome Highway

Pet Microchipping Event

DCHS is proactively addressing pet safety by hosting a one-day, low-cost Pet Microchipping Event. This initiative aims to increase the chances of reuniting lost and missing pets with their owners quickly. While microchips typically range from $35 to $50 at shelters and vet clinics across the country, DCHS is offering them at the reduced rate of only $5 per pet for this special one-day event.

Microchips are a simple, effective way for animal shelters and veterinary clinics to identify where your pet belongs. Each microchip is as small as a grain of rice, so your pet won't know it's there, but we'll always know where home is.

Please remember to bring your dog on a leash and your cat in a carrier.

Want to save time? Pre-register & pre-pay for your microchips before the event!
