Thursday, November 13, spend a fun evening at Brewery Nønic. You can get a great meal with Chef Stacy starting at 5pm. Eat, drink and mingle with author Emilie Worre Menz. Book talk and signing starts at 7pm. The best type of book club.
The Book:
How far would you go to erase the present?
How can you stop your past from chasing you down?
Sadie Stone is 17 and alone, even when she's surrounded by people. She thinks she's got them all fooled with her mean girl exterior, even herself. When Sadie begins to see her life in a different, brighter light when Anna, the new girl at school shows up, she realizes that whether she likes it or not, she has met her match just when her life begins to unravel.
Her most recent detention forces her to adjust her Friday night escape with an unwelcomed partner, making her place of escape exposed to the unknown. This other life is one no one knows about, the one she wants to keep for herself, as well as boy she goes to see every time his band is playing.
In no time, both of Sadie's worlds are out of her control. From one disaster to the next, Sadie finds out what she's really made of.
Unsinkable Stone tells a tale of the heartfelt exploration of a high school girl's unfolding world. It's a sight-seeing tour through the ins and outs of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery with the hope of new friendships and family. It is a testament to resilience, the power of forgiveness, and the importance of staying true to oneself amidst life's unpredictabilities.

Thursday, October 16, 1-2:30 pm. UW-Stout Professor of English and Oscar Wilde scholar, Joan Navarre, will introduce and moderate an Oscar Wilde Birthday Event: live streaming from the British Library. Merlin Holland, the grandson of Oscar Wilde, will be speaking with noted actor Rupert Everett about Oscar Wilde's life and legacy.
Oscar Wilde's life in the limelight is well known. He continues to be celebrated for his sparking comedies and timeless wit. What is not well known are the myths and legends that arose after his death. Oscar Wilde died in November 1900. He had been exiled in Paris, chased by scandal, and broken by prison life. A new book, After Oscar: the Legacy of a Scandal, written by Wilde's only grandson, sheds light on the legacy of Oscar Wilde. This British Library event, taking place on Oscar Wilde's birthday, features Merlin Holland in conversation with Rupert Everett. They will discuss details of the remarkable posthumous life of one of our most celebrated literary and cultural figures.

Author Visit: Andrew Patrie
Local author Andrew Patrie will be at the library on November 4 from 6-7pm (library meeting room). He will be discussing his book, Clumsy Love https://more.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S164C2685494 , A Father's Journey Parenting His Transgender Daughter.
From MORE: A father's journey of love, loss, and discovery as he learns to embrace and support his transgender daughter--one clumsy step at a time. In the summer of 2011, at a family gathering in the north woods of Wisconsin, a four-year-old named Simon--the only child of a couple from West Central Wisconsin--quietly made a bold statement. Donning oversized fairy wings, Simon's attempt to dress as a girl stunned the extended family into silence. Four years later, Simon told their parents she was a girl and would be wearing a dress to her ninth birthday party. By thirteen, she had legally changed her name to Simone. From that point forward, the family began making regular trips to Madison to see an endocrinologist at the University of Wisconsin's Pediatric and Adolescent Transgender Health (PATH) Clinic. As Simone transitioned and entered adolescence, her father found himself grappling with increasingly complex questions: How could he fully support her without being consumed by worry for her safety? What should be done with family photos that captured a version of Simone that no longer existed? And how could he mourn the son he thought he had while wholeheartedly embracing the daughter he now loved? Clumsy Love tells the story of one father's evolving, imperfect, and deeply genuine efforts to raise his transgender child. As Simone grows into the person she's always known herself to be, her father embarks on a parallel journey--learning, day by day, what it truly means to love the unexpected child who changed his world. --
Andrew Patrie teaches English language, literature, and creative writing in West Central Wisconsin where he lives with his family. He has self-published two previous collections of poems: Nights, Grace (2006) and Half-Life (2016). His work has appeared most recently in Barstow and Grand, Sky Island Journal, Twig, and on Wisconsin Public Radio. He is a contributor to Volume One magazine and the underground Polish heavy metal 'zine Burning Abyss. Clumsy Love is his first nonfiction book.
